Opener Zawar Farid stood like a colossus to crack an unbeaten 72 to help Delhi Bulls – Future Mattress emerge as the first champions of the AVR PAY NEWS AJMAN T20 CUP powered By SKY EXCHANGE.NET at the Malek Stadium. Chasing Maratha Arabians – Brothers Gas 142 for 8, Zawar Farid scored over half his team’s total off 63 balls with seven boundaries and one six. He got timely support from Syed Haider, who hit 32 runs off 20 balls, and together they put on a crucial 65 runs for the fifth wicket. Farid also had sparkled with the ball taking three wickets to restrict Maratha Arabians – Brothers Gas’s total.

It was a dramatic finish to the tournament with Omer Farooq bowling the 19th over clean bowling Syed Haider with his third delivery and also had Delhi Bulls – Future Mattress skipper Umair Ali Khan with the next ball caught by Harry Bharwal at long on. Zawar Farid hit the hat-trick delivery from Farooq for a six to equal the score and then pick a single to win the game with one over to spare.

Zahid Ali bowled a tight second over giving away just three runs. Skipper Umair Ali introduced himself for the third over and gave away only six runs. Then Zahid Ali struck with the second ball of the fourth over taking the prize wicket of Jiju Janardhanan caught at mid-on for 7. Usman Khan too fell to the second ball he faced, edging to wicketkeeper Abdul Shakoor for a duck. When Umair Ali Khan had opener Hamdan Tahir miscue his shot to Syed Haider at point for 14, Maratha Arabians – Brothers Gas were reeling at 22 for 3 in 4.3 overs.

In the first semifinal at the Malek Stadium, Maratha Arabians – Brothers Gas restricted Deccan Gladiators – MGM to 120 in 19.1 overs and won the match by eight wickets in 16.3 overs riding on Jiju Janardhanan unbeaten 52 off 47 balls with five boundaries, well supported by Mohammad Afzal’s unbeaten 42 off 23 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. The two put on an unbeaten 64 runs for the third wicket. Earlier, Jiju removed the cream of Deccan Gladiators – MGM batting by dismissing their openers Hameed Khan and Ansar Khan.

Earlier, Delhi Bulls – Future Mattress won the toss and elected to bowl. Bangla Tigers – Karwan’s openers Fayyaz Ahmed and Sagar Kalyan put on 44 runs in 4.5 overs. Then Fayyaz fell leg before to Zawar Farid for 24. At the score on 50, the aggressive Sagar Kalyan too departed when Nilansh Keshwani at covers pulled off a spectacular one-handed catch off Umair Ali Khan for 19. Ali Khan too fell at the same score run out for a duck, followed by Fawad Nawaz who got trapped leg before to Sultan Ahmed for 8. Ten runs later, Ameer Hamsa got caught by Sultan Ahmed at mid-wicket off Mohammad Azhar for 13. Then Furqan Khalil and Arsalan Jawed kept the scoreboard moving. They put on 50 runs for the sixth wicket. Furqan top scored with 33 runs off 29 balls with two sixes and one boundary before getting bowled to Zawar Farid. Arsalan Jawed remained unbeaten on 21 off 17 balls with one boundary and a six to ensure a total of 127 for 7 in 20 overs.
